The Opena Case – a protective iPhone4 case with an integrated slide out bottle opener

IT’S a beer lover’s worst nightmare. You’re on the golf course/standing at the barbie/ out fishing with mates and about to crack a cold one. And then it hits you. Where’s the bottle opener?

This very dilemma led entrepreneurs Rob Ward and Chris Peters to create the ‘Opena Case’ -the World’s first iPhone4 case with a slide out opener. The Opena’sclever design combines a slide-out bottle opener with an iPhone case -made from polycarbonate and stainless steel -that promises to protect your beloved phone whilst cracking a cold one.   “The idea for the Opena Case came to us one afternoon when we were out kicking back drinking a few beers. Some people have bottle openers on their key rings, butmany times you don’t always have your keys with you, especially when having a fewdrinks. So we thought, why not put a bottle opener into an iPhone case?” says Opena Case co-founder Rob Ward.   Working to three essential criteria the Opena Case was designed to ensure:   a) the case is slim and looks great when not opening beers b) there is no chance of the Opener scratching the iPhone, and c) the Opena Case keeps your iPhone safe   Then, using rigorous testing that included opening shaken up beers without anydamage, the Opena Case proved to be the beer lover’s ultimate accessory.

These Melbourne based entrepreneurs aren’t just savvy with design, they’re smartbusinessmen too. When launching Opena Case, Ward and Peters were faced withconsiderable production costs, so they called for the public to pre-order an OpenaCase on the crowd funding platform (Kickstarter.com). A total of 578 backers pledged $28,303 in just 30 days – well above the $15,000 reserve set. The rest is history.   The Opena retails at $39.95.

• How strong is the Bottle Opener?

In short… Pretty darn strong. We’ve done a lot of product testing… and whenwe say a lot, we mean it. We’ve tested it on 47 different beers from all overthe world and there has not been a single beer that we couldn’t open. TheOpena has been analyzed by an ex-Boeing Aerospace Engineer using the latest FEA computer software and was given two thumbs up. The designallows the load from the blade to be transferred to the sides of the case so no direct loads are transferred to the iPhone.

• Does the case offer good protection for my iPhone?

The case fully protects the back and sides of the iPhone. The front edges sita little higher than the screen so if you put your phone face down on a flatsurface it’s protected. We’ve also done several drop tests and the iPhone has survived without a mark every time.

• Will the Opena help me meet women?

Yes, definitely! What kind of lady wouldn’t want her beverage opened by anice fella with an iPhone bottle opener in his pocket. “Is that an Opena in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”

• Does it come in any other colors?

You can have it in any color you want as long as its black or white….

• Can I still plug in my charger and other Apple accessories?

Sure can! We made sure the case didn’t infringe on any of the iPhone ports so the charger, headphones and everything else can plug in without any problems.

• Does work on screw tops and soda bottles?

Yep sure does!

I do have to admit that I would end up talking to a guy at a party if he had the means to open my bottle of beer :)
