2 lakh SIM cards blocked to resist mobile terrorism
The government has blocked around 2 lakh mobile Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards to resist mobile terrorism.
This information came from a meeting on Wednesday at the home ministry with Home Minister Sahara Khatun in the chair.
The meeting informed that around 2 lakh mobile SIM cards have been blocked as allegations of carrying out different types of crimes, including extortion, kidnapping and giving threats, through those SIM cards were brought.
The meeting also said the government had earlier blocked 12 lakh unregistered SIM cards.
The meeting also decided that National Identity (NID) cards number must be given in time of purchasing a SIM card and the purchaser has to provide a guarantor’s address and contact number.
It also said that those who are below 18 years will not be eligible for purchasing a SIM card.
